Leaning into Trouble
Vernissage: Friday | August 14 | 7 pm
Exhibition: August 14 – September 26 2026
The exhibition Leaning into Trouble brings together 19 recent artistic positions by students from Bara’s Photography and Moving Image class at HGB Leipzig.
We are all confronted with a restless time that draws us into conflicts, challenges, and difficulties we can neither evade nor wish to avoid. These are conditions that demand our engagement and call for our response.
In this sense, the 19 young artists—each expanding, employing, and experimentally exploring the medium of photography in different ways—respond individually and personally to the atmospheres, moods, and social conditions within which they seek self-assertion, participation, and a sense of orientation.
The environment we inhabit is increasingly experienced as fragile, unstable, and vulnerable. Precisely for that reason, it becomes essential to remain in motion, to stay alert, and to practice forms of resistance—whether angry, wild, or quiet; clever, subtle, courageous, humorous, sorrowful, or excessive.
The exhibition embraces a multiplicity of ways of encountering oneself and others, of speaking and communicating, and of creating connections between different backgrounds, cultures, and identities.
In all its banality and complexity, photography lends itself to investigation, communication, surprise, and to asking subversive questions about the present and about the space between history and the future. Across these 19 distinct approaches, unexpected affinities emerge, forming a repository of diverse experiences that viewers may recognize as shared or find reflected back upon themselves. At their core, these works are concerned with bodies that speak and with the languages they embody.
